Frogs that look like moss, turtles with snouts like pigs, pythons that grow to 22 feet…an amazing array of reptiles and amphibians creep and crawl inside the Bronx Zoo’s World of Reptiles.
At our Reptile Nursery, coo at toadlets and hatchlings! Inside the tanks and terrariums, you might find a tiny green gecko hopping between branches, a red cobra youngster curled in a corner, or a pancake tortoise that’s flat as a flapjack.
Are you a frog fanatic? Hop over to visit jewel-like poison dart frogs, or Vietnamese mossy frogs camouflaged in a streamside habitat. Devotee of the slow and steady? Check out our rare radiated tortoise from the island of Madagascar and the pig-nosed Fly River turtle with a skin-covered shell. Looking for scaly superstars? Get within a safe distance of our enormous Burmese python, then head to the crocodilian pools to ogle a pair of false gharials.
Visitors will learn about the Wildlife Conservation Society’s efforts to protect threatened reptiles and amphibians. Between wild habitat loss, poaching for the skin trade, and other dangers to the survival of these species, many are on shaky ground and need our help.
