Astor Court

At the heart of the park, tour Zoo Center, a home for camels and babirusas, stroll the Italian Gardens, and admire other national landmarks of our historic Beaux-Arts campus. Built at the turn of the 20th century, Astor Court features classically-inspired architecture decorated with animal sculptures on pediments, friezes, column capitals, and roof cornices. While you’re visiting, stop by two of our crowd favorites—the Sea Lion Pool and the Monkey House.

Newly opened along the landscaped central corridor of the court is our peacock garden, complete with Victorian gazing balls. Benches and walkways make this area a pleasant respite from the zoo’s bustle. Parasols are optional!

Coming Soon
On June 19, our former Lion House will reopen its doors as the site of our new Madagascar! exhibit. Madagascar! will transport visitors to a one-of-a-kind island nation that teems with wildlife found nowhere else on our planet. The exhibit will recreate the rain forest, limestone caves, spiny desert, and other habitats of this wondrous land of extremes.
