World of Birds

Sing along with blue-bellied rollers, nod your head to helmeted curassows, and admire the smooth moves of the Cuban Amazon parrot. You might wonder if you’ve left the zoo for the fashion runway as you walk down the halls of the World of Birds. Here you’ll find striking headdresses, elegant plumes, and plenty of preening.
Our planet’s tremendous variety of birds—more than 9,000 species—live in almost every region, from the icy poles to the hottest deserts. Bring your birder’s notebook and keep track of some of your favorites—high-flying hornbills and toucans, pink-cheeked palm cockatoos, or the tropical motmot, named for its distinctive call.
When you go home, be on the lookout for birds that share your own skies. In fact, as a part of the Atlantic flyway for many seasonal migrators, New York City is one of the nation’s best places for bird watching.
Daily Feeding
Join our acrobatic flock of white-throated bee-eaters for a daily bee-eater buffet at 2:45 p.m. See them hunt on the wing as zookeepers toss them one of their favorite snacks—live crickets.
