The Children’s Zoo is an experience people remember from their childhoods, and represents many people’s first up-close encounter with wild animals.”

Kids-Eye Views

Exhibits in the Children’s Zoo are designed to make sure our smaller guests can easily get a great look at the animals.

Pink is Perfect

It’s true what they say — you are what you eat! The pigments in the adult flamingo’s food — algae, crustaceans, and other invertebrates - cause their feathers to turn pink.

In the Exhibit

North American Porcupine

Porcupines are famous for their sharp quills. They can have as many as 30,000 quills covering their bodies and use them as a defense against predators. Despite popular belief, porcupines cannot shoot their quills.

Giant Anteater

Giant anteaters range from southern Belize to northern Argentina and have big, bushy tails with long, tubular noses. They have lush fur and tremendous claws for digging that are tucked under their feet like knuckles.

Linne's Two-Toed Sloth

With two claws on its front feet and three on the back, Linne’s two-toed sloth is perfectly adapted for an arboreal life in South America’s rainforests.
