Volunteer

Be Part of the Team
Share your enthusiasm for wildlife with visitors to the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, and the New York Aquarium. As a docent, you'll not only become an expert on animal life, you'll also learn all about wildlife conservation efforts and the history of our parks. WCS offers a range of opportunities for volunteers, including leading guided tours, chatting with guests at exhibits, and maintaining our fish tanks…from underwater!
Bronx Zoo Volunteer Program
The Bronx Zoo offers two volunteer programs. As a docent with the Friends of the Zoo, you’ll help out the Education Department by leading schoolchildren and other groups on guided tours of exhibits and assisting in our environmental education programs. As a volunteer ambassador, you’ll work with the Guest Relations Department to help provide the best possible guest experience to our zoo visitors.
Central Park Zoo Volunteer Program
Become a Wildlife Guide at one of the nation’s greatest institutions. You’ll assist the Education Department at the Central Park Zoo in delivering exhibit talks, staffing information tables, offering administrative support, leading tours, reading to children during our story time activities, and participating in a variety of events.
New York Aquarium Volunteer Programs
Become an Aquarium volunteer and help staff exhibits; assist keepers with animal care, training, and exhibit maintenance; teach visitors about marine conservation; or work at events and education programs. We offer three volunteer programs with unique responsibilities.
Prospect Park Zoo Volunteer Program
The Prospect Park Zoo offers three ways to volunteer. As a Discovery Center volunteer, you’ll assist children and families in the Zoo’s interactive Discovery Center on weekends. As a Discovery Guide, you’ll answer questions about animals, direct visitors around the zoo, help out at special events and run children’s activities. As an Education Docent you’ll interpret animal exhibits, lead tours, manage discovery stations, and train as an animal handler and present live animal encounters to the public.
Queens Zoo Volunteer Program
Volunteers at the Queens Zoo work with the Education Department. As a member of the team, you'll teach schoolchildren and other visitors about animals by leading
guided tours, assisting with special programs and events, speaking at
narrated feedings, and helping with arts and crafts activities.
