Does the zoo close during the winter? Is it open on holidays?
The Bronx Zoo is open year-round. We close on the following holidays:
Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day, and Martin Luther King Day. Spring and summer are naturally high-attendance seasons, but we encourage guests to visit during fall and winter as well. When the weather cools off, many animals are more active and you'll encounter fewer crowds.
How long does it take to see the zoo?
With 265 acres of wildlife habitats and attractions, it's difficult to see the entire zoo in one day. For shorter visits, take a two-hour tour of our most popular exhibits, like Tiger Mountain, Himalayan Highlands, Congo Gorilla Forest, and World of Reptiles. During the warmer months, guests with young children can begin their visit at the Children's Zoo and then stroll Astor Court to meet our sea lions and visit Madagascar! In wintertime, warm up in JungleWorld, our giant indoor rainforest habitat.
Are general admission tickets available?
Yes. We offer both Total Experience tickets and General Admission tickets. Total Experience tickets give you unlimited access to a host of premium exhibits and activities. They are available both online and at the gate. With General Admission tickets, which are only available at the gate, you must pay to enter those experiences.* GA tickets are priced as follows:

Children 2 years and under are always free!
*JungleWorld, 4-D Theater, Bug Carousel, Congo Gorilla Forest, Butterfly Garden, Wild Asia Monorail, and Zoo Shuttle each have a $6.00 entrance fee with General Admission tickets.
Are the zoo's hours different in the summer vs. winter?
They are. In the colder months, from early November to early April, the zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. During the warmer months, we're open longer, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (5:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays).
I am a tourist visiting from Manhattan. What's the easiest way to get to the zoo?
The BxM11 express bus is a fast and inexpensive way to travel between the Bronx Zoo and Manhattan. It makes stops along Madison Avenue, between 26th and 99th Streets, then travels directly to the zoo's Bronx River entrance. Click

Is there a day when admission is free?
General admission is free all day on Wednesdays at the Bronx Zoo. Please consider making a donation to help support our operating costs, and to aid our work in caring for animals here in New York and around the world. We appreciate your support!
Am I allowed to bring food into the zoo?
Yes, picnic areas and tables for boxed lunches are provided at the Dancing Crane Café and throughout the park. Please abide by the posted rules in exhibits where food and drink are prohibited.
Can I rent a wheelchair or stroller?
A limited number of wheelchairs and strollers are available for rent at each entrance on a first-come, first-served basis. See

Can I bring my own stroller? Are there any stroller restrictions?
Yes, you can bring your own stroller. Some buildings and exhibits request that you stow your stroller in a designated area before entering.
Do you have lockers available for rent?
Does the Zoo offer military discounts?
The Bronx Zoo offers year-round discounts to any active duty or reserve members of the U.S. Military when they present a valid military ID at the admissions gate. Discount includes: FREE Total Experience Ticket or General Admission ticket and 50% off discount for up to three family members included on the same admissions transaction. Discounted tickets are available at the admissions booths only, not through our online ticket store. Military discounts are not applicable on Wednesdays at the Bronx Zoo.
Does the zoo offer student discounts?
The Bronx Zoo offers complementary General Admission to NYC undergraduate college students. Eligible students must either be: a) attending a NYC college (must show a valid college ID from an institution within the 5 boroughs of New York City; b) NYC resident, attending non-NYC college (must show valid college ID and proof of NYC residency)
Do I have to specify the date I am visiting when purchasing tickets online?
How do I get a WCS Membership with my IDNYC municipal ID card?
Once you have received your IDNYC card, you may bring that card to the Bronx Zoo to apply for an individual WCS IDNYC Membership. Enrollment is only available on site at the Bronx Zoo. Find out more about WCS IDNYC Membership.
Do I get in free if I'm a member of another zoo?
WCS does not honor reciprocal memberships from other zoos. However, by becoming a WCS member, you can enjoy free admission to all four of our New York Zoos and the Aquarium.

The zoo offers free general admission tickets for New York City school and camp groups. Call the Group Sales Department at (800) 433-4149 to obtain your free passes.
Does the Zoo have a Lost and Found?
Yes, our Lost and Found is located in the Security Department in the Education building on Astor Court. To inquire about an item you may have lost at the zoo, call (718) 220-5128.
Do I have to make reservations for programs?
All public events are free with zoo admission. However, advance registration is required for all of our Education
Can I host a birthday party for my child at the zoo?
Birthday party programs are available at the Bronx, Central Park, Prospect Park, and Queens Zoos only. Parties can take place year-round, rain or shine. Visit our

I am a member of the media and would like to arrange a zoo visit or take some photographs. Who should I contact?

Will the Zoo accept an animal I cannot care for?
Every year, the Bronx Zoo receives many inquiries from people who would like to donate wild animals or exotic pets; however, the zoo is not able to accept them. If you have an animal in need of a new home, please contact local and regional rescue organizations that specialize in caring for unwanted pets, such as the
ASPCA. Plans for a pet should always include care for its entire lifespan. Remember that exotic animals almost never make good pets. Regretfully, the Bronx Zoo cannot take in additional animals. Please contact your local Animal Control or ASPCA.
Does the Zoo offer behind-the-scenes tours?
The Bronx Zoo does not offer behind-the-scenes tours but we do offer
guided tours. Visitors can also hear directly from zookeepers about the animals in their care during daily enrichment and feeding demonstrations. Education programs for children and adults also provide "insider information" about our animals and how we care for them.
What is "preferred parking" and do members park there for free?
Preferred Parking in Fountain Circle offers Bronx Zoo guests the closest parking location to zoo exhibits. With these premier spots, guests can enjoy the utmost convenience and have easy access to their car throughout the day. Preferred Parking is available to visitors on weekends only, for a $23 fee. FREE parking at this exclusive location is a new benefit for Conservation Fellows and Partners. Members at the Dual Premium, Family Premium, and Conservation Supporter levels do not receive free parking in Fountain Circle, but may pay the parking fee of $23 for this lot OR park for free in one of the zoo's other parking lots. Parking is subject to availability; a limited number of Preferred Parking spots will be saved for Conservation Fellows and Partners, but reservations are not accepted. The lot will close when capacity is reached.
