Live From Madagascar!

The Spiny Forest exhibit is home to two species of lemurs, as well as radiated tortoises and a variety of bird species including red fodys. The animals co-exist here just as they would in the wild. The cam is live daily from 10am to 4pm EST. When the cam is off, use the time lapse feature in the top right hand corner to play back the previous day’s footage.

Unique Animals

Here you’ll find four species of lemurs, huge Nile crocodiles, fossas, mongooses, tomato frogs radiated tortoise, and of course the Madagascar hissing cockroach.

Crocodile Cave

You’ll encounter Nile crocodiles in a limestone cave exhibit that mimics their natural habitat. Their pool contains 17,000 gallons of water, and glass panels allow visitors to view the animals both above and below the waterline.

Radiated Tortoises

The Bronx Zoo has had significant success in breeding radiated tortoises. Once abundant, this tortoise is now critically endangered. In the wild, WCS works to protect breeding territory for these animals against poachers.

In the Exhibit

Coquerel's Sifaka

Coquerel’s sifakas spend most of their time in trees and leap effortlessly, launching themselves vertically with their strong legs.

Collared Lemur

Collared lemurs live in groups of males and females. Unlike the sifaka and many other lemurs, they are not matriarchal.

Fossa

This cat-like, carnivorous mammal is found only in Madagascar. It is a close relative of the mongoose.

BEAUTIFUL MANTELLA

The Spiny Forest exhibit in Madagascar is my favorite place in the zoo. The lemurs are captivating, and the exhibit is very dynamic with the turtles crawling around below you and the birds flying right over your head.”
