Youth Employee Advisory Council
Elevating Youth Voices in Cultural Institutions is a practitioner’s guide for cultural institutions interested in eliciting meaningful feedback from the next generation of employees, while simultaneously contributing to their professional growth. It describes the process of forming a Youth Employee Advisory Council (YEAC), a mutually beneficial program in which youth engage in structured idea development to improve the visitor and employee experience. Since starting in 2017, the Bronx Zoo’s YEAC has engaged more than 100 youth employees, generated hundreds of ideas, and has shifted our thinking as an organization on the power of youth voice in our planning, operations, and culture.
