Job Title: Food and Beverage
Location: New York Aquarium
Job Type: Temporary/Seasonal
Department: Restaurant Services
Status: Non-Exempt
Schedule: Must be able to work 3-5 days per week including weekends and holidays. Schedule varies and is dependent on weather and guest attendance; schedule subject to change through the spring and summer.

Restaurant Associate

Essential duties may include:

  • Producing and preparing menu items and ready-to-eat food items
  • Operating cash register, collecting payment, and giving customers correct change
  • Having the knowledge of food product, identification and acceptable level of food quality
  • Knowing the methods of food preparation, cooking times, and portion sizes to ensure food is prepared according to recipe and acceptable food quality standards.
  • Food Handlers Certified preferred (or able to attain within the first 45 days)


Essential duties may include:

  • Setting up, maintaining and operating the Bar area.
  • Serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks according to standard recipes.
  • Checking identification of customers, to ensure that they are of legal drinking age.
  • Ensuring quality standards of all products by adhering to local, state, and federal food handling, preparation, and portioning procedures
  • Selling WCS food items and increasing sales through up-selling and suggestive selling
  • Stock shelves or process deliveries, following departmental inventory control procedures

Specific Qualifications

  • Food Handlers Certified preferred (or able to attain within the first 45days )
  • Ability to frequently move objectives weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Minimum of one-year experience as a bartender, including cash handling

Food Service Supervisor

Essential duties may include:

  • Assist in the training of staff members within your assigned location(s) consisting of, but not limited to: customer service, equipment handling, routine cleanliness and maintenance, daily production logs, WCS restaurant policies & procedures, etc
  • Maintain cash and inventory controls to ensure that society funds are handled in an accurate and secure manner that conforms to departmental policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all Federal, State and Local labor laws and standards for food preparation, presentation, sanitation and storage.

Qualification Requirements

Additional Information:
Positions require:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and/or move 20-50 pounds
  • Adhering to local, state, and federal sanitation guidelines in food handling and food storage procedures
  • Maintaining a clean work environment in adherence with all Department of Health codes
  • Comfortable being exposed to cold and hot weather conditions
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well within a team dynamic
  • Successfully passing math test for cash register responsibilities
  • Delivering excellent service to customers
