How to Have a Great Time with Your Pre-Schooler at the Bronx Zoo

We’ve got the recipe for the perfect stress-free zoo visit all planned out for you and your little ones. Using the guide below, all you need to do is show up and enjoy your day. Be sure to visit by September 7th, so you don’t miss Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood!

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live Show

Join Daniel Tiger and Katerina Kittycat at Grizzly Corner for a live performance as they explore different habitats and learn about animals from around the world. Performances run 12-15 minutes and are at 11am, 12, 2 and 3pm daily.

Insider Tip: If your child would enjoy taking a photo with Daniel Tiger and Katerina Kittycat, plan ahead to come back to the tent for the 4pm Meet & Greet.

All Aboard the Bug Carousel

Does your kid have a thing for bugs? We get it! Here, they’ll climb aboard a long-legged praying mantis, bright green grasshopper, or their other favorite insect for a one-of-a-kind ride. It’ll have the little ones buzzing and chirping with excitement.

Insider Tip: Food, drinks, and restrooms, including a Family Restroom, are available nearby at Dancing Crane Cafe.

Explore Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood

Located at Giraffe Corner, the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood interactive exhibit offers Daniel Tiger fans the chance to climb aboard the first-ever life-sized Trolley, make playful noises at the Music Wall, hop like a frog from lilly pad to lilly pad, and just generally spread their wings and explore hands-on, interactive activities featuring their favorite characters.

Insider Tip: When kids arrive at the Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood entry archway, they’ll receive a free bi-lingual activity book in English and Spanish to guide their day and continue the fun at home.

Children’s Zoo*

Here, little ones get close-up looks at squirrel monkeys, porcupines, great horned owls, otters, coatimundis, fennec foxes, and many other species - all in kids-eye-view exhibits specially designed to engage and educate our youngest guests. Then visit the farmyard to meet, greet, and pet goats, sheep, alpacas, and donkeys.

Insider Tip: Need a bathroom break or changing area? There are restrooms inside Children’s Zoo.

...and you’ll find so much more to see and do at the zoo, including Nature Trek, where visitors ages 3 & up get a bird’s eye view of the park and they navigate across bridges and over balancing beams in a safe and challenging adventure. New additions for 2026 include water play, a music area, stepping stones, and log climbing! You can also enjoy a relaxing ride on the Wild Asia Monorail where you’ll see tigers, red pandas, rhinos, and more!

And of course, the zoo is home to more than 11,000 animals, so there are always tigers, giraffes, rhinos, gorillas and more waiting to be discovered by your family.
