Our Top 5
What a year it's been! So many exciting things happened at our zoo. We decided to round up our five favorites. Take a look back at some of the adorable new additions and conservation wins that we saw. And we couldn't have done it without your support.
1. Snow Leopard Cub Debut
Ok, this one is still fresh in our minds. But how could it not be! In 2017, we welcomed a snow leopard cub that is a descendant of Leo. Not only is the cub cute, but she's an important ambassador for the species.
2. Indian Gharials are Back in the Bronx
We welcomed these slender-snouted crocodilians back to the Bronx for the first time since 2000. Eight of them are on exhibit in JungleWorld.
3. THE ZOO
Not to brag, but we're on TV. Ok we're definitely bragging. We made our TV debut on Animal Planet's THE ZOO. It was an incredible show (yup, bragging) that gave viewers a look into the Bronx Zoo like never before, including the story of cheetah ambassadors. Stay tuned for season 2!
4. Our Bison Story Continues
Six bison calves were born to a herd of seven females and one male that arrived at the zoo from Ft. Peck, Montana, in November 2016. The birth marked another important milestone in the Bronx Zoo's history of bison conservation.
5. Burrowing Owls Swap Burroughs
We welcomed four burrowing owls from Queens Zoo to the Bronx this year. The tiny birds have made quite an impression and we're thrilled to have them.
