Schools
WCS Education’s mission is to inspire a diverse and inclusive movement of conservation advocates. Engaging PreK-12 schools is critical to advancing this goal. Each year, we facilitate thousands of programs for more than one hundred thousand students, teachers, and school community members representing hundreds of New York City schools.
This report highlights the work we do with schools through field trips and outreach programs for students, professional development for educators, and school community days for staff, students, and families. We aimed to document participation across program types, identify students’ and teachers’ needs and interests, and measure learning and engagement outcomes. Results provide insight into how our work connects our school audiences to wildlife and wild places and how we can continue to strengthen our practice.

We also conduct research on the impact of zoo and aquarium-based professional development on teachers’ skills and attitudes toward science. Here are a few examples of our work.
