The Wildlife Conservation Society leads SCI Network NYC, a consortium of eight science-based cultural institutions in NYC that collectively support 1,100 interns across 60 types of internships.

Our institutions are committed to providing high-quality STEM internships to New York City youth. Positions are in a variety of fields, including animal care, horticulture, research, science communication, teaching, and conservation advocacy.
As SCI Network NYC, we work to:
- Build pathways for New York City youth to pursue STEM internships.
- Provide training and support for internship supervisors to ensure high-quality career development experiences for youth.
- Leverage New York City’s Summer Youth Employment Program to benefit our interns and institutions.
- Demonstrate our collective impact through evaluation, storytelling, and advocacy.
Impact
- We host 1,100 interns annually.
- Youth collectively earn more than $2.4M in stipends and wages.
- On average, youth receive 200 hours of training and access to SCI Network NYC’s skill development workshops, peer networking events, and advancement support.
- 74% of youth alumni plan to pursue a career involving science.
- 77% of youth alumni would like to work at a cultural institution in the future.
