Bleeding-heart Geladas
This week on THE ZOO viewers got a closer look at our geladas, specifically the males that have received heart implants. This technology has allowed our staff to better monitor the health of the animals, which is vitally important because the Bronx Zoo has the only breeding group of geladas in North America!
On your next trip to the Bronx Zoo make sure to spend some time watching the gelada troop explore their hilly exhibit. You might be able to hear them vocalize to each other and you’ll definitely be able to differentiate the males from the females – just look for the flowing hair.
